At a Glance

W Silver Recycling operates in high-risk industrial environments where employees work around heavy equipment, trailers and trucks across multiple sites. Safety incidents, hazards and equipment issues need to be identified and addressed quickly to protect people and operations.

As operations expanded, safety and equipment information was captured through a mix of spreadsheets, phone calls and emails. While effective at individual sites, this made it harder to gain timely, consistent visibility across locations and act early on emerging risks.

W Silver implemented Evotix to centralize safety, compliance and equipment reporting across sites. The platform enables mobile, real-time reporting and gives teams consistent visibility into issues, audits and maintenance needs across operations.

Established over 100 years ago in El Paso, W Silver Recycling is one of the largest ferrous and non-ferrous metal recyclers in the United States. With operations across the U.S. and Mexico, the company processes and ships recycled metals, supporting manufacturing and industrial supply chains worldwide.

Safety is critical to daily operations. Employees work around heavy machinery, trailers, trucks and processing equipment, where timely reporting and clear visibility are essential.

Recycling metals as a responsibility to communities and humankind

W Silver Recycling operates at the heart of global sustainability, recovering and processing ferrous and non-ferrous metals that support manufacturing, infrastructure and everyday life across borders. This work takes place in demanding industrial environments where employees operate around heavy equipment, trailers and commercial vehicles.

Safety practices underpin how the organization operates. They protect W Silver’s people, support reliable operations and build trust across sites. To support this responsibility, W Silver focuses on consistency and visibility across the organization, helping teams prevent incidents, remain audit-ready and continually improve how work gets done safely.

We do everything safely, or we don’t do it at all. That’s our number one rule.

Victor CruzDOT Compliance Officer

High-risk operations with manual reporting

Before adopting Evotix, W Silver supported safety and equipment reporting through manual processes. Managers and supervisors collected information using spreadsheets, emails and phone calls, sharing updates once incidents, hazards or equipment issues were identified.

This approach reflected the way many industrial organizations operated at the time and worked at an individual site level. As operations expanded across locations, however, it became harder to maintain consistent, real-time visibility into safety observations, compliance needs and equipment condition across the organization.

As a result, teams spent more time compiling information for audits and compliance reporting, and decisions around equipment readiness and preventive maintenance often depended on follow-up rather than immediate insight.

Before Evotix, we relied on our managers to submit incident and hazard information via spreadsheets, emails or phone calls. As we scaled, we needed a different solution.

Modernizing reporting and empowering employees

W Silver introduced Evotix to bring frontline insight directly into safety and equipment decision-making across the organization. Operators, drivers and warehouse employees can now document:

This shift created a more immediate connection between the field and safety teams. Information moves quickly, enabling clearer communication, faster response and shared understanding across sites. Over time, this has changed how safety and equipment information is surfaced and acted on.

To support participation across the workforce, W Silver focused on accessibility and hands-on training. Spanish-language support helps ensure employees can report in the language they are most comfortable using, expanding participation across sites in the U.S. and Mexico.

Evotix gives our employees a way to share what they’re seeing in the field, in their own words, without it getting lost along the way.

Victor CruzDOT Compliance Officer

Clearer compliance, audits and equipment decisions

W Silver’s approach to safety reporting has strengthened how the organization manages compliance, audits and equipment readiness across sites. With clearer documentation and shared visibility, teams can move from assembling information after the fact to making informed decisions with confidence.

1.

Information entered into the system can be used to generate OSHA 300 and 300A logs by site. This reduces the manual effort previously required to prepare compliance documentation and helps teams stay audit-ready throughout the year.

2.

Mobile reporting with photos provides safety and maintenance teams with direct visibility into trailer and equipment condition. Rather than relying solely on individual interpretation, teams can review documented issues and determine whether equipment is truly out of service or can be repaired and returned to use.

3.

Consistent documentation helps W Silver prioritize preventive maintenance, reduce unnecessary downtime and bring assets back into service more efficiently.

4.

Managers and supervisors across locations can access the same data, enabling more consistent decision-making and communication.

Evotix has been a game changer for compliance, safety and maintenance, and for delivering better service to our customers.

Victor CruzDOT Compliance Officer

Why Evotix?

Evotix provided W Silver with a system that frontline teams would use and leadership could rely on. The platform combines mobile reporting, centralized data and flexible reporting to support safety, compliance and operational decision-making.

To date, Evotix has helped W Silver:

What’s Ahead?

W Silver’s priority remains ensuring employees go home safe every day. Looking ahead, the team plans to expand how they use Evotix insights to better visualize trends across safety, equipment and operations.

Proactive risk management

With clearer historical data and real-time reporting, W Silver aims to prevent repeat issues, improve equipment readiness and continue strengthening safe, reliable operations across all locations.

Supporting safe operations

For W Silver Recycling, safety, sustainability and operational discipline are inseparable. The work of recycling metals carries a responsibility — to employees, to customers and to the communities and industries that depend on reliable materials. By strengthening visibility and participation across the organization, W Silver continues to uphold that responsibility while building a safer, more resilient operation.

At a Glance

Opal Packaging operates a complex, circular‑economy business across more than 70 manufacturing, recycling and distribution sites in Australia and New Zealand. The organizsation had already established a strong safety foundation using Evotix Professional, supporting frontline reporting across the business. As Opal’s focus expanded to include enterprise‑wide risk, assurance and environmental oversight, the business needed broader capability, deeper integration and a platform that could scale to support its next phase of growth.

Opal upgraded from Evotix Professional to Evotix Enterprise to support a more integrated approach to safety, risk, assurance and environmental management. The move enabled broader system coverage through more than 20 modules, automated data flows from HR systems and simpler access for frontline teams via QR codes. The upgrade provides a scalable foundation for Opal’s ongoing focus on risk uplift, sustainability reporting and long‑term regulatory readiness.

Opal Packaging is an Australian and New Zealand–based manufacturer of paper and recycled packaging for food producers and supermarkets. Operating as a circular‑economy business, Opal collects recycled material, transforms it into paper and cardboard, and distributes finished products across a large network of sites.

Safety, Stewardship and Risk at the Core of Opal’s Operations

Opal Packaging manufactures paper and recycled packaging for food producers and supermarkets across Australia and New Zealand, operating as a circular‑economy business that turns recovered materials into new products. Its operations span paper mills, recycling facilities, manufacturing plants and more than 70 distribution and logistics sites, creating a complex, high‑risk working environment. Safety is foundational to Opal’s success, enabling the business to protect people, maintain reliable production and meet growing regulatory and assurance expectations. As the organization looks to uplift risk, safety and environmental oversight together, Opal’s broader goal is to create clearer visibility and shared responsibility across every site and role.

Safety sits at the center of everything we do at Opal.

Outgrowing a Safety‑Focused System in a Complex, Circular Manufacturing Environment

Opal Packaging had already established strong safety foundations using Evotix Professional, supporting a strong foundation of frontline reporting across its manufacturing and logistics operations. However, as the organization expanded and its priorities evolved, the platform was largely focused on incident and safety processes and did not extend easily into enterprisewide risk, assurance and environmental oversight.

Opal Packaging’s growth required a system that connects data across sites, supports consistent governance, and provides leadership with a single, enterprisewide view. To support its next enterprise phase, leaders needed a clearer line of sight – from sitelevel activity through to executive and board oversight. Without the more configurable approach of Evotix Enterprisedata was difficult to compare across functions and locations, limiting Opal’s ability to demonstrate consistent governance and proactively guide improvement at an enterprise scale.

We needed a system that could talk to safety, environment, risk and assurance as one — not as separate pieces.

Annette BuryGeneral Manager of Risk and Assurance

Transforming Risk, Safety and Sustainability Through an Enterprise Platform

With the upgrade to Evotix Enterprise, Opal Packaging evolved from function‑specific systems to a single platform that connects safety, risk, assurance and environmental insight across the organizsation. Frontline workflows remained simple and familiar. Employees and contractors continue to use QR codes to report incidents, risks and observations from any site, while the underlying platform expanded to support broader enterprise needs. For leadership, integrated data and automated system feeds now provide clearer, more consistent oversight across safety, risk and environment, supporting compliance with local requirements and the expectations of Opal Packaging’s overseas parent company. This enterprise‑level visibility allows Opal Packaging to better understand site‑level risk, prioritizse investment, and take a more proactive approach to managing exposure, thereby strengthening Opal Packaging’s assurancoutcomes and supporting long‑term cost control, including insurance considerations.

The system really becomes our eyes and ears across the business.

Clearer Risk Visibility, Stronger Assurance and More Confident Decision‑Making

Opal Packaging’s upgrade to Evotix 360 has strengthened how the organizsation manages safety, risk, assurance and environmental obligations across its manufacturing network. By connecting information that was previously managed across functions, teams can now move from manually assembling reports to understanding what is happening across sites in near real time. This evolution supports clearer oversight, more consistent compliance and greater confidence in decisions at both site and executive level.

1.

With safety, risk, audit and regulatory data flowing through a single enterprise platform, Opal has enhanced its ability to meet local regulatory requirements and the expectations of its overseas parent company. Information that was previously compiled manually is now easier to access, review and validate, supporting more consistent and timely assurance reporting to executives and the board.

2.

QR‑code reporting continues to provide employees and contractors with a simple way to report incidents, risks and observations directly from the field. Maintaining this familiar frontline experience while expanding enterprise capability has helped sustain participation across manufacturing, recycling and distribution sites, improving the quality and timeliness of information flowing into the business.

3.

By linking incidents, audits, risks and controls through integrated modules, Opal can better understand how issues relate across sites and functions. Teams can see where risks were identified before incidents occurred and use that insight to strengthen controls and reduce the likelihood of repeat events.

4.

With clearer visibility into where risks are emerging and which sites require greater attention, Opal is able to focus effort and investment more effectively. This enterprise‑level view supports a more proactive approach to risk management and helps reduce downstream impacts such as operational disruption or increased insurance exposure.

Evotix is the tool that will help us better manage safety, environmental risk and sustainability as one connected picture.
